How might we tailor a men’s lacrosse gear line towards new players?
Men’s Lacrosse is a contact team sport where players on a field use lacrosse sticks to move a lacrosse ball, and score goals.
10 players from each team play at once: three attackers, three midfielders, three defenders, and one goalie. Players are allowed to “check” other players with their lacrosse sticks while in play; hits to the body will usually result in a penalty, but in-game checking frequently occurs.
APEX Lacrosse is launching a new line of protective gear, designed for the Mastodons High School Lacrosse team.
The line consists of shoulder/chest pads, a set of elbow pads and a set of padded gloves.
Lacrosse can lead to serious injuries if not suited with the best quality gear. In youth lacrosse, body checking is not allowed. As children enter their high school league, the sport becomes increasingly physical.
MAX protection with APEX’s padded gear technology: compact, durable exteriors can ease parents’ minds by ensuring their child will stay armored during the game.
We conducted an interview with the Emmanuel College lacrosse team to gain insights into their opinions on their personal protective gear.
The team shared their thoughts on what padding they liked, what got in their way during gameplay, where breakage points were, and how much heat got trapped in their gear.
The initial designs for Mastodon’s new line of protective gear were ultimately successful for discovering where the final concept direction should go.
Refinement of brand language throughout the concepts, as well as how different shapes and styles worked together to build the design, influenced the ideation for the final concepts.
Prototyping with models helped to build an understanding of which materials worked well together and how they were affected by movement.
